Purchase, NY
(Oct. 8, 2015) – The Purchase College men's soccer team jumped back into the Skyline Conference win column Thursday night at home. The Panthers defeated Sarah Lawrence, 3-0.
In the process, the Panthers improved to 4-9 overall and 3-2 in league play, dropping SLC to 1-6-2, including 0-5-1 in the conference.
The Panthers looked sharp offensively in the first half. Purchase appeared to have scored two early goals, one from captain
Samvara Anello (SR/Bali, Indonesia) and the other from
Isaac Lee (FR/New York, NY), but two offside calls pulled both the goals back.
Undeterred, the Panthers kept pressing and broke through on another strike from Lee. The midfielder found the left corner from middle 18 off an assist from
Nick Ishoo (SR/Tarrytown, NY). The score is Lee's second of the season and set the tone for the remainder of the night.
Purchase tacked on one more first-half goal, courtesy of
Tim Rera (SR/Cornwall, NY) – his second of the season – for a comfortable 2-0 lead at half. Rera's blast came from top 20 and like Lee's was another pretty highlight for the Panther offense on the evening.
The hosts outshot the Gryphons 16-2 in the opening period, including 8-1 on goal.
In the second half, Purchase controlled the tempo and added one more goal with 37 seconds left as Ishoo scored his first of the season – an unassisted score to complete the eventual 3-0 win.
The Panthers had 12 players tally shots in the victory. Meanwhile, the Purchase defense was paced by
Wil Kauffman (JR/Broomall, PA) and
Connor Leavens (JR/Whitestone, NY), who helped pitch a shutout along with goalie
Esteban Aguilar (SR/East Hampton, NY).
For the game, Purchase outshot SLC 30-6 and held an 11-0 advantage in corner kicks.
In defeat, SLC keeper James Berry played well, despite allowing three goals. He recorded 11 saves in the loss.
Purchase returns to conference action Saturday at home.
