(Nov. 17, 2015) – Junior captain Justine Vento scored 14 points to lead the Brooklyn College women's basketball team to a 67-64 victory over Purchase College in the Panther season opener Tuesday evening.
Purchase was led by senior forward

Also scoring in double figures for Purchase were juniors

Danielle Holmes (Warwick, NY). Haugh and Holmes each netted 12 points and six rebounds, while Uhl and Sangetti-Daniels tallied 10 points apiece, including an impressive 3-for-3 from beyond the arc by Uhl.
Dragging at times with unforced turnovers and fouls, the game certainly picked up momentum down the stretch. Despite a slow start, the Bulldogs led 18-13 to end the opening quarter. They would hold on to 32-31 lead to end the first half.
Brooklyn trailed by as many as seven points in the first three minutes of the final period. They tied the game at 59 with a 7-0 run capped by a three-point make by Ryan Reeder.
With the scored tied 63-63 with 2:32 left to play, junior guard Twanda Holder stepped to the free throw line and knocked down both shots, giving the Bulldogs a two-point advantage that they wouldn't relinquish. Purchase would miss their second free throw attempt that would have tied the game with just under a minute to play.
The Panthers would have a chance to take the lead after a Bulldog turnover with 18 seconds left to play. However, senior guard Reeder stole the ball, which eventually led to a Taylor Gallagher free throw make on her first attempt giving the Bulldogs a 66-64 advantage with :09 to play. She would go on to miss her second attempt, but Reeder was in the right place at the right time once again for the offensive rebound. Reeder would be fouled immediately and hit one two free throws giving the Bulldogs a three-point advantage with just under nine seconds to go.
The Panthers got a shot off, which fell short as time expired.
For the game, Brooklyn held a 46-36 advantage in rebounds. The Bulldogs finished shooting 34.8% from the floor and 72.2% from the line, while the Panthers hit 31.3% and 77.8%, respectively.
Purchase will travel to Danbury, CT this weekend to compete in the Western Connecticut State University Tip-off tournament.
