Purchase, NY
(Sept. 16, 2015) – Stockton defeated the Purchase College men's soccer team 4-1 Wednesday night.
The Ospreys improved to 5-1 in the non-conference win. The loss dropped Purchase to 1-5.
The defending Skyline Champion Panthers have had a rigorous non-league schedule to start the fall campaign, including DIII powerhouse Stockton, which advanced to the NJAC and ECAC tournaments in 2014.
Stockton scored two early goals. Alex Kourahanis scored the game's first strike inside of the first two minutes – his third of the season. Tyler Mills added his first of the season four plus minutes in. Both goals were assisted by midfielder Anthony Colofranson.
The Panthers cut the deficit in half with 11:30 remaining in the first.
A handball on a shot attempt by forward
Myles Clohessy (SR/Cornwall, CT) setup a free kick. Clohessy followed that attempt with his first goal of the season, slipping the ball past Stockton keeper Chris Giraudin on a nice redirection on the free kick.
However, the Ospreys wasted little time getting the goal back.
Less than two minutes later, a corner kick from the foot of midfielder Nick Auleta setup Jeff Tanski for his third goal of the season and a 3-1 advantage.
The first half wrapped up with Stockton holding a two-goal lead.
In the second, Colofranson provided the first score of the period on an assist from Jared Ruff in the 49th minute. The score extended the lead to the 4-1 final.
Purchase will look to rebound in its conference opener Saturday at home, when the Panthers host Farmingdale State at noon.
Notes: Panther backup keeper
Uriel Milechberg Chirom (SR/Buenos Aires, Argentina) got the start in place of
Esteban Aguilar (SR/East Hampton, NY). Milechberg Chirom recorded eight saves … Stockton and Purchase has made the non-conference matchup an annual affair. The Panthers traveled to Stockton last season and the Ospreys came to Purchase this fall … Three of the next five games for Purchase are highlighted by marquee conference showdowns. Purchase will host FSC and later travel to Sage and SJC-LI, in between the Panthers will play Kean and SJC-BKLYN – the newest member of the Skyline.
