Maine Maritime Posts 3-0 Win

Purchase, NY (Sept. 18, 2015) – For the second straight night, the Purchase College women's volleyball team was in action.

The Panthers, who fell in straight sets Thursday night at Pratt, continued their challenging non-conference schedule Friday at home, welcoming Maine Maritime Academy to Purchase. The Mariners posted a 3-0 victory, improving to 6-3 in the road contest.

Maine Maritime won the opener 25-10, despite some good back-and-forth play early. The Panthers performed better in the second and third sets, but the visitors rallied again late, delivering 25-11 and 25-10 finals.

"We hit the same percentage in the first and third set, but we had our most kills in the second set," Purchase head coach Albana Krasniqi said. "We played better tonight than last night at Pratt, but we need to be more consistent from set-to-set."

The young Panthers (0-4) had three players record multiple kills. Purchase was led by Julia Chirlin (SO/Albany, NY), Alex Lally (JR/Sunnyvale, TX), Tyra Campbell (FR/Brooklyn, NY), Jade Hackett (SR/Mount Vernon, NY) and Victoria Blum (JR/Bronx, NY). Blum paced the team defensively with five digs, while Lally handed out six assists. Chirlin, Hackett and Campbell shared the team lead for kills (2).

Maine Maritime was led by Gillian O'Neal and her 13 kills and 10 digs. Tess Clark added nine kills in the win. Setter Melissa Spaulding tallied 30 assists for the visitors.

Up next, Purchase returns to action on Sept. 22 at WestConn.
