Purchase, NY (Sept. 20, 2015) – Purchase College improved to 3-1 on the season with a 9-0 blanking of St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn Sunday afternoon in both teams' Skyline Conference women's tennis league opener hosted by the Panthers.

The Panthers swept all six singles matches and all three doubles matches.

Purchase's No. 1 singles player, Emma Yavel (JR/Brooklyn, NY) won her match, 7-5, 6-3, against the Bears' Tathiana Pierre.  Yavel's doubles partner, Erika Fulton (JR/Wallingford, CT), tallied a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Denise Trerotola at the No. 2 singles spot.  The Purchase pair also won their No. 1 doubles match, 8-2, over Pierre and Trerotela. 

In No. 3 singles, Catherine Pasquale battled to a 6-3, 6-4 win over Mary Edward.  The final three singles matches included straight shutouts from Caroline Haldeman-Emmerling (JR/Miami, FL), Nadia Shadi (FR/New York, NY) and Maggie Lavin (SO/Rockaway Beach, NY).

In doubles, Pasquale and Haldeman-Emmerling tallied an 8-4 win at the No. 2 spot while the freshmen duo of Shadi and Nastaja Stepec (New York, NY) breezed through third doubles to an 8-0 shutout. 

The Panthers return to their home courts on Tuesday with a non-conference match against Brooklyn College starting at 3:30 p.m.
