(Sept. 22, 2015) – The Purchase College women's tennis team and new
head coach Susan Kaminsky are off to a great fall season.
The Panthers rolled to their fourth win Tuesday afternoon, defeating non-conference rival Brooklyn College 6-3 at home.
Purchase (4-1) captured wins at No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 singles after opening with two of three doubles victories.
Despite falling at first doubles, the hosts started strong, capturing wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. The combination of
Caroline Haldeman-Emmerling (JR/Miami Shores, FL) and
Catherine Pasquale (SO/Valhalla, NY) earned the Panthers an 8-2 win at second doubles, as the duo topped Lauren Marino and Anastasia Volovik.
Purchase's
Nastaja Stepec (FR/New York, NY) and
Maggie Lavin (SO/Whitestone, NY) then upended Fatma Serageldin and Ashley Rivera 8-0 at No. 3 doubles for a 2-1 advantage heading into singles.
Brooklyn (1-4) would also earn a win at first singles, but the Panthers showed their mettle and took four of the six matchups, highlighted by a victory by
Erika Fulton (JR/Wallingford, CT) at No. 2. Fulton defeated Diana Beshta 6-4, 6-4 in a hard-fought match.
Haldeman followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 and then the bottom of the order behind
Roula Zyada (SR/Cairo, Egypt) and
Hannah Youssef (SO/Carmel, NY) finished off the match for the hosts. Zyada captured a marathon match over Volovik, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, while Youssef took care of Rivera in straight sets (6-0, 6-0).
The visitors were led by top singles player Suraya Maenhout and Serageldin, who earned the two singles wins at No. 1 and No. 5, respectively.
