Purchase, NY
(Sept. 8, 2015) – Ramapo College posted a 3-0 non-conference win over the Panthers at Purchase Tuesday night.
Ramapo improved to 3-0-1, dropping Purchase to 1-3.
The Panthers, who won their season and home opener against the College of Staten Island last Wednesday night, will look to rebound at home Friday night against another non-conference opponent in the City College of New York.
Around 32 minutes into the contest, Purchase got its first good look at the net, when
Matthew Ebel (SR/Miller Place, NY) fired a shot on goal that was saved by Ramapo keeper Ryan Sprague.
Moments later, Ramapo retaliated with its best scoring chance of the period. Forward Ryan Campbell got the Roadrunners on the board with a ball that was dribbled up from the 40 into the 15 and scored into the left corner.
Within three minutes, Campbell notched his program-leading fifth goal of the season for a quick 2-0 advantage. This score was assisted by Leandro Gonzales. The ball was led into the 10 and scored into the left corner of the net.
Campbell would record a hat trick in the first half, capping the scoring for Ramapo. The final goal of the period from Campbell was assisted by Justin Olaya.
In the second period, Purchase fought valiantly. Captain
Samvara Anello (SR/Bali, Indonesia) fired a shot on goal inside the first two minutes of action, but Sprague snared the line-drive shot to protect the three-goal margin.
Anello and newcomer
Rob Cal (FR/Port Jervis, NY) both tallied strong shots on goal midway through the second, but Sprague once again nabbed the shots to preserve the shutout. Cal and Anello led the Panthers with shots on goal apiece, accounting for four of the team's six on the night.
Sprague earned the win in goal for the visitors, turning away six shots in the victory.
For the Panthers, netminder
Esteban Aguilar (SR/East Hampton, NY) was impressive in the loss, totaling 17 saves.
Ramapo outshot Purchase 27-11 for the game.
