(Oct. 8, 2016) – The Purchase women's soccer team improved to 4-5-2 on Saturday afternoon with a 7-0 victory over St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) at Belson Stadium, home of St. John's University.
The host St. Joseph's (1-3) held Purchase to just one goal in the first half, despite missing several key starters. The Bears, however, struggled to fend off the Panther offense in the second stanza, allowing another 24 shots and six goals before the final buzzer.
Purchase out-shot the Bears by a staggering 46-0, including 24-0 in shots on goal. The Panthers also managed a 12-0 advantage on corner kicks.
Five different Panthers located the goal-scoring column, led by juniors
Nina Brennan (Staten Island, NY) and
Emma Porter (Homer, NY) and senior
Amanda Green (SR/Roslyn Heights, NY). Brennan and Porter netted two goals apiece while Green assisted on four of the Panthers seven total goals.
Brennan opened and closed the scoring action with headers. The eventual match-winner came at 20:52 off a corner kick and the final off a free kick, both taken by Green. Sophomore
Tori La Fata (East Meadow, NY) netted the second, unassisted, at 57:12, and minutes later rookie
Carmen Rosario (FR/Commack, NY) picked up her first collegiate goal, assisted by Green.
Porter and teammate
Astrella Dacosta (FR/Croton on Hudson, NY) also made their debut goal performances after finding the back of the net at 66:24 and 68:27, respectively. Porter went on to score her second, team's sixth in the 76th minute.
St. Joe's goalkeeper Kristen Candelaria registered an impressive 17 saves in net.
Purchase will resume action at home on Oct. 12 against Lehman College, The non-conference matchup will start at 7 p.m.
