Purchase, NY (Oct. 16, 2016) – The Sage Colleges got the better of a rescheduled matchup Sunday at Purchase College.

The Gators bested the Panthers, 6-3.

Sage opened with a pair of doubles victories to take a 2-1 lead heading into singles. Although Purchase's top doubles tandem of Emma Yavel (SR/Brooklyn, NY) and Erika Fulton (SR/Wallingford, CT) would produce an 8-6 win at first doubles, Sage captured wins at No. 2 and No. 3, edging the hosts in a pair of close matchups.  

The edge in doubles set the tone for singles play, as Sage won four of the six matches played.

In the process, Sage improved to 7-5 overall, including 4-3 in Skyline Conference play. The loss drops Purchase to 4-8 and 2-4.

Sage was paced by No. 1 singles player Sammantha Montague, who topped Yavel 6-2, 7-5 at first singles, which made the score 4-2 in favor of the visitors. The Gators won second, fifth and sixth singles to close the match in the win column.

The Panthers kept things close midway through the match, capturing wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles. Caroline Haldeman-Emmerling (SR/Miami Shores, FL) won in three sets at No. 3 (3-6, 6-4, 10-5) and Abigail Cuddy (SO/Mount Kisco, NY) won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4.

Purchase will now travel to Mount Saint Mary Wednesday.
