Men’s Soccer Posts 4-0 Shutout of SLC

Purchase, NY (Oct. 18, 2016) – In its best performance of the season, Purchase shutdown Sarah Lawrence Tuesday night.

The Panthers shutout the Gryphons, 4-0. In the process, they earned their first win of the season. The loss drops SLC to 4-11, including 0-9 in league play.

Purchase held a 1-0 advantage at the half behind a Liam Nethercott (JR/Amenia, NY) goal from Stephen Gueye (FR/Eastchester, NY). On a high lofted pass from the right side, Nethercott headed the bounce past the keeper for the lead.

In the second half, with the defense holding SLC silent, Aidan Leavens (SO/Whitestone, NY) netted an unassisted score. He dribbled past the defense for a one-on-one with the keeper.

The Panthers would later seal the victory on insurance goals from Gueye and Aaron Jones (FR/Highland Falls, NY), respectively. Gueye headed in a corner kick (Oliver Dubreus (SO/Cornwall, NY)) from the right side, and Jones, on a cross from Keenan Wittman (FR/Exeter, NH), found the far post.

For SLC, Alix Legrand had the Gryphons' first shot of the game in the sixth minute, one of his two shots in the half. Mohamed Camara put another shot on goal early in the second half, but it was thwarted by the Panther defense.

The Panthers doubled their lead in the 66th minute on the Leavens goal. In the Gryphons' best chance in the game, Colin Magerle headed the ball over the Panther keeper in the 76th minute, but the shot deflected off the crossbar and back to the Panthers.

Purchase dominated the contest, holding advantages in shots (16-3) and corners (8-3). The Panthers have two regular-season games remaining, including next Wednesday's home finale against Mount Saint Mary.
