Patchogue, NY
(Oct. 1, 2016) – The Purchase College women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 stalemate in a Skyline Conference game hosted by St. Joseph's College (LI) Saturday afternoon at Danzi Stadium. With the draw, the Golden Eagles sit at 3-6-1 (3-1-1 Skyline) and the Panthers at 3-6-1 (3-1-1 Skyline).
The Panthers jumped to a quick lead in the second minute when
Rebecca Rojas (FR/New Hyde Park, NY) took the early corner into the box for
Nina Brennan (JR/Staten Island, NY), whose header gave Purchase a 1-0 advantage. The Golden Eagles generated six shots before slotting home the equalizer in the 33rd minute. Christina Gagliardicame barreling down the left wing and fired a shot into the upper-90. The rest of the half would see just one shot from Gagliardi in the 40th minute to conclude the frame.
The Golden Eagles outshot the visitors in the second half, 5-3. After regulation failed to yield a winner, the two sides entered overtime in search for a valuable conference victory, but it wasn't in the cards. St. Joseph's had two corner kicks in the first overtime period but could not convert.
The Golden Eagles edged the Panthers in shots (16-6), but an impressive performance by Purchase keeper
Rachel Mizrahi (JR/Goldens Bridge, NY) shot down any hopes for the host team. Mizrahi tallied seven saves for the Panthers.
Up next, Purchase will now host the Brooklyn College Wednesday at 7 p.m.
