(Oct. 22, 2016) – The Purchase College women's volleyball team played two matches Saturday at St. Joseph's College-LI.
SJC-LI and SJC-BKLYN defeated Purchase 3-0.
In the finale, SJC-LI won the first two sets 25-7 and 25-9, before finding greater resistance in the third frame. The Panthers jumped out to an 11-5 lead early in the set, but this time around the Golden Eagles rallied to earn a 25-22 come-from-behind win to sweep the match.
Purchase was paced by setter
Kaitlyn Pillig (SO/Mamaroneck, NY) and her five kills.
SJC-Li's Morgan Tiska went for 13 kills on 19 attacking attempts for a .526 hitting percentage in the contest.
In the earlier matchup, SJC-BKLYN's Briana Marrazzo led the Bears' attack with 15 kills in a 25-15, 25-13, 25-9 final.
The Bears trailed only momentarily in the early parts of the opening two sets and cruised to their second Skyline victory of the season.
Holding on to a 16-12 lead in set two, the Bears won nine of the last 10 points to close out the set. Nina DiCioccio slammed four of her match-high eight kills in the set connecting at a .429 clip.
SJCBKLYN led from the outset of the third stanza and built a 13-3 lead and never turned back.
Maura Gribbins (SO/Buffalo, NY) paced Purchase against SJC-BKLYN, finishing with four kills, four assists and nine digs. She shared the team lead in kills and assists with Pillig. Her nine digs were a match high.
SJC-LI topped SJC-BKLYN 3-1 in the other match.
