Purchase, NY
(Dec. 6, 2016) – Mount Saint Mary College pushed a large lead early in the game that would set the Knights on a path to defeat the Purchase College women's basketball team, 80-45, in Skyline Conference action Tuesday evening.
The Panthers drop to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in the league, while the Mount rises to 5-0 and 3-0 in the Skyline.
The visiting Knights shot 54.7 percent from the line (35-of-64), led 52-25 in rebounds, and turned 11 Purchase turnovers into 21 points.
Sophomore forward
Amber Jones (Bronx, NY) paced the Panthers with 13 points and nine boards, while senior center
Frances Minaya (San Fernando, CA) and freshman forward
Dayja Medina (Brewster, NY) aided the effort with eight points apiece.
Junior forward Jessica Rini led the Knights with a double-double performance, posting 18 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in 25 minutes of action. Sophomore forward Kayla Cleare added 15 points to the cause while junior guard Bridget Kelly notched 12 points off the bench. Sophomore guard Megan Kerutis rounded out the double digit scoring for the Mount with 11 points and a game-high five assists.
Purchase went on a 5-0 run to open up the game after Minaya netted a 3-pointer and Jones delivered on a layup. The lead was short lived however, as the Knights rallied with six unanswered points.
With less than three minutes left in the first quarter, Purchase would take its final lead in the game (17-16). The Mount went on an 8-2 run to close out the quarter, 24-19, in favor of the visitors.
The Knights continued to control the ball throughout the rest of the game, extending their lead by more than 20 to seal the final 80-45 triumph.
