(Feb. 28, 2016) – Purchase College men's volleyball dropped two Skyline Conference matches this weekend, falling to host New Jersey City University before getting a loss against Kean University. The two losses give Purchase a 7-9 overall record, while dropping them to 2-5 in the league.
The Panthers fell to NJCU (10-11, 4-4 SKY) to open up action on Sunday, featuring three sets with scores of 25-18, 25-13 and 25-19.
The Knights immediately gave Purchase trouble, jumping out to a 6-0 lead in the first set and then scoring three-straight points to lead the set, 9-1. The Panthers would go on a 4-0 run of their own to cut NJCU's lead to just two points and make the score 10-8.
The Knights continued to find points and closed the set out with a 6-1 run to take the first, 25-18.
In the second set, the scoring opened up with an equal exchange of points. Tied at 6 apiece, the Knights jumped ahead and went on an 8-2 run to bring the score in their favor, 14-7. Back-to-back attacking errors by Chris Williams (SO/Valley Stream, NY) would finalize Knights' 25-13 second-set victory.
The third set ended closely as Purchase was able to catch up after being down by as much as nine points, but NJCU got the win with a score of 25-19.
Purchase took on Kean later in the day, falling in three sets with scores of 25-15, 25-9 and 25-17.

Andrew Schwab (JR/Merrick, NY) and
Matthew McCarthy (SR/Fayetteville, NY) led the team in loss, recording a combined 30 kills, with 26 of them assisted by Schwab.
Up next, the Panthers are set to host Sarah Lawrence University and Kean for a Skyline tri-match this Thursday, starting at 4:30 pm.
