(Feb. 6, 2016) – The Purchase College men's volleyball team fell to Skyline rival Ramapo College 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-17) before defeating non-conference Bard College 3-1 (25-22, 15-25, 2517, 26-24). The Panthers now stand at 3-5 overall and 0-1 in the league.
Against Ramapo (2-4, 1-0 SKY), the Panthers were led by
Kevin Carges (JR/Brockport, NY) who collected a team leading nine kills.
Riley Damerell (JR/Rochester, NY) added seven kills as the team hit 24-66 with 17 errors, hitting .106 to close-out the three-set match.
Damerell dished out 12 assists and
Andrew Schwab (JR/Merrick, NY) added 11, while
Matthew McCarthy (SR/Fayetteville, NY) picked up eight digs.
The Roadrunners hit a combined 42-77 with 12 errors (.390). Justin Feigeles recorded a team leading 15 kills and Paul Close added ten. Patrick Wixted picked up eight kills and Mikhael Erushalimskidi shed out a team leading 32 assists. Close led the team's defense with five digs and Nick Amos and Erushalimski each collected an assisted block. Jordan Elam put away two solo blocks in the win.
In Purchase's win over Bard (1-9, 0-1 UVC), the team was led by Schwab who tallied a triple-double with 11 kills, 16 digs and 14 assists. Carges and Damerell aided in the effort with a combined 22 kills, 17 digs and five service aces.
Down two sets to one, Bard was up, 21-20, in the fourth set. But the Panthers tied it at 24, then won it on consecutive errors by the Raptors.
Bard got 15 kills from Alex Adams, and 12 from Jesse Small, who hit .391. Kai Bernier-Chen had 19 assists and 13 digs, Mahir Sheikh had 15 assists, Tyler Zowaski had 16 digs and Troy Robertson contributed six kills and three blocks.
