Hines Breaks Out, Scores Five Times in 11-10 Win at Moravian

Bethlehem, PA (March 17, 2016) – Women's lacrosse bounced back in their second game of the season Thursday afternoon, topping Moravian College on the road to even their 2016 record at 1-1 this spring.

The Panthers defeated the Greyhounds, 11-10.

Zoe Hines (SO/Maplewood, NJ), the reigning Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year, scored five goals to propel Purchase following their season-opening loss at USMMA Tuesday.

Moravian netted four of the final six goals, but its comeback attempt fell short at Rocco Calvo Field.

Emma Porter (SO/Homer, NY) added two assists for the Panthers, while goalie Cynthia Plackis (SO/East Northport, NY) recorded nive saves. Kelsey Straub (JR/White Plains, NY) led the way with four ground balls.

Purchase's Kelly Turtell (SO/Farmingdale, NY) finished the afternoon with three goals of her own, while Porter netted two and Samantha Rich (SR/Providence, RI), returning from injury this season, scored her second of the spring. Rich's goal was the second to last for Purchase in the game, with Hines capping the scoring for the Panthers.

Hines' unassisted goal (7:26) late in the second half made it 11-9.

Moravian added a free position goal at 2:05, but the Panther defense and the play of Plackis sealed the victory following the offensive outburst by Hines, Turtell and Porter.

Eileen Rolwood led the Hounds with three goals, while Alexia Johnston and Dalia Aguilar each netted two apiece.

Moravian jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead.

The Hounds led 3-1 after Johnston's first goal before Purchase netted four straight for a 5-3 lead.

It was 5-4 at half, and later tied at 5-5, early in the second.

After Johnston tied the contest again at 6-6, the Panthers scored three straight for a 9-6 margin with 15:04 still remaining.

The two programs would trade goals, but Purchase hung on and finished off a nice, non-conference victory for its first win of 2016.

Purchase will now host its home opener Saturday against Maine Maritime at noon.
