New Rochelle, NY (April 13, 2016) – Purchase softball pounded out a combined 36 hits in a doubleheader sweep of the College of New Rochelle Wednesday.

The Panthers (14-4) opened in a 19-1 final and finished off the day in a 14-0 win. Tara Stiansen (SR/Hampton Bays, NY) went 6-for-6 between the two games with six RBI, including a game-high five in game one. Nicole Fortuna (JR/New Rochelle, NY), who started the opener and recorded the win in the circle, followed with four hits in the first contest, including four RBI.

Fortuna, a New Rochelle native, tripled and doubled, while rookie Kelly Hayes (FR/Staten Island, NY) smashed two doubles in game one and had a triple in game two. Seven hitters had multiple hits in game one for the Panthers.

In game two, Briana Leon (JR/Glen Cove, NY) homered and was among four players with three hits in the rout. Fortuna, Leon, Mary Adams (JR/Milton, PA) and Stiansen all finished with three hits apiece. Adams and Kylia Maddox-Langley (FR/Mount Vernon, NY) also homered in the win.

Purchase had 20 hits in game two. Adams paced the team with three RBI. 

Samantha Alonzo (SR/Wappingers Falls, NY) earned the game-two win. She struck out nine and also collected two RBI in the victory.
