CMSV Dramatics Provide Sweep

Purchase, NY (April 14, 2016) – The College of Mount Saint Vincent posted a pair of late-inning wins over Purchase Thursday.

The Dolphins, who hosted the twin bill at Purchase College, won game one, 3-2, in eight innings and then rallied for a 6-5, game-two win. The two wins, which came in the Dolphins' last at-bats, improve the team's record to 12-12 overall and 9-3 in Skyline play.

In game one, Dolphins starter Mackenzie Heizer pitched eight innings, allowing two runs (one earned) while striking out six batters, to win her fifth game of the season.

CMSV was held off the scoreboard until the sixth inning when Heizer helped her own cause by delivering a sacrifice fly to left field, allowing Danielle Maffei to score and tie the game at 1-1.

Purchase took the lead back in the top of the seventh inning on an RBI double by Nicole Fortuna (JR/New Rochelle, NY), but CMSV threw out the Panthers' potential third run at home.

In the bottom of the seventh, Kierstyn Bourdeau started the inning and belted a home run to left field to tie the game at 2-2.

The Dolphins would win the game in the eighth on a Katie Moos walk-off home run to left.

In the tough loss, Shannon Clancy (SO/Babylon, NY) and Kelly Hayes (FR/Staten Island, NY) combined for five of the team's seven hits for Purchase. Samantha Alonzo (SR/Wappingers Falls, NY) took the loss in the circle.

In game two, Kathryn Dalton started for CMSV, lasting three innings.

Trailing 3-0 entering the bottom of the fourth, Rachel Heizer belted a two-run home run, to bring the Dolphins back within one at 3-2. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded, Joann Guerra smacked a two-run single through the left side, scoring Dalton and Mackenzie Heizer to give CMSV a 4-2 lead.

Heizer, who came in to relieve Dalton in the fourth, allowed two runs in the fifth, putting Purchase back ahead 5-4.

But in the bottom of the inning, Heizer did it again, singling through the left side, allowing Maffei to score and tie the game.

In the bottom of the seventh, Heizer notched a single, then Dalton followed with a double, setting up Bourdeau with two on and one out and the junior delivered, singling home the winning run.

Hayes led the way offensively in game two. She went 4-for-4 with two runs and one RBI for the Panthers. Lisa Kentris (FR/Latham, NY) and Briana Leon (JR/Glen Cove, NY) added two hits apiece in defeat. Fortuna took the loss on the mound.
