(April 16, 2016) – Taylor Canto picked up three hits in game one and Cindy Connoly won her seventh game of the season in the opener as the Mount Saint Mary College softball team stayed perfect in league play on Saturday with 9-0 and 4-1 wins over visiting Purchase.
The Knights scored four runs in the home half of the first inning. Connoly opened the scoring with an RBI single that delivered Amanda Almodovar with Canto, Courtney Barbara and Breanna DePasquale each driving in a run in the inning.
The Mount added three more runs in the fifth inning to open a 7-0 lead and put the game away with a pair of runs in the sixth. Connoly moved to 7-1 on the season with a complete game shutout, allowing five hits and striking out nine.
After falling behind 1-0 in game two, the Knights plated two runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead for good. Surdan doubled home Shannon Sommer to tie the score at 1-1 and later scored the eventual game-winning run on a triple off of Canto's bat.
Victoria Goldbach picked up her fifth win of the season in the game after working 5.1 innings and striking out six.
The Mount is 16-7 overall and 14-0 in Skyline Conference play.

Samantha Alonzo (SR/Wappingers Falls, NY) had two of the team's five hits in the opener to lead the way.
Lisa Kentris (FR/Latham, NY) also doubled in the loss.
In game two, Purchase out-hit MSMC 10-6, with three players recording two hits apiece (
Briana Leon (JR/Glen Cove, NY),
Kelly Hayes (FR/Staten Island, NY) and
Tara Stiansen (SR/Hampton Bays, NY)).Hayes had an RBI double in the defeat, while Kentris tripled in the loss.
Purchase is now 14-8 overall, including 4-8 in league play. They will be at Old Westbury Sunday.
