Purchase, NY
(Sept. 21, 2016) – Three second-half goals propelled visiting Brooklyn College to a 4-2 victory at Purchase College Wednesday night.
The game was tied at 1-1 at halftime, but a second-half surge over the first 15 minutes set the tone for the win, as the non-conference Bulldogs improved to 3-4-1.
BC's Jordy Ortiz, who would finish with a hat trick, scored the game's go-ahead goal (49:17) off a rebounded shot by Andres Pertuz – his second assist of the night. The visitors would then rattle off two more goals inside of the next 15 minutes with Omer Capoglu and Ortiz netting unassisted strikes.
The Panthers responded with a goal by rookie
Brandon Paniagua (FR/Bronx, NY) (69:09), but ran out of time in their comeback efforts to fall to 0-6-1.
Purchase wasted little time getting on the board. The Panthers found the back of the net just 2:02 into the game. Midfielder
Yianni Amvrosiatos (SO/Warwick, NY) assisted forward
Dylan Hyman (SR/San Francisco, CA) on a cross. For the Panther tri-captain, it is his second goal of the season and provided an early boost.
But the Bulldogs answered right back. Off a feed from Pertuz, Ortiz lined a goal over the keeper's head to tie the game 1-1 a little over three minutes later (39:44).
BC held an advantage in shots (29-14) and a narrow margin in corners (4-3) for the contest.
Purchase recorded nine shots in the opening period, highlighted by the Hyman score and a pair of near goals from Amvrosiatos and
Matthew Ebel (SR/Stony Brook, NY).
However, the hosts didn't capitalize on the additional scoring chances. Nonetheless, the defense and reserve keeper
Jade Aubertin (FR/Brooklyn, NY), making the start, kept pace until the early portion of the second half.
BC's Valentyn Kharko and Ortiz paced the club offensively with eight and six shots, respectively. The Panthers were led by Amvrosiatos, Ebel, Paniagua,
Ramsey Heitmann (SO/Garrison, NY) and some solid play from defender
Aaron Jones (FR/Highland Falls, NY) and midfielder
Zach Ruschmeyer (SO/Wynantskill, NY).
Jerron Street earned the win in goal for the Bulldogs, turning away five shots. Aubertin finished with seven saves in defeat.
