(Sept. 28, 2016) – Backed by two first-half goals, the Sage Colleges defeated host Purchase 6-0 Wednesday night.
A header by Lai Le opened the scoring for the Gators (28:32). He was assisted by James Fitzpatrick. Sage added a second first-period goal eight minutes later. River Seybolt scored from Sarpong Adjei to push the lead to 2-0.
In the second half, a penalty kick from Seybolt extended the lead and opened the floodgates. His second goal of the game and fourth of the season helped Sage improve to 2-4-3 overall, including 1-2-1 in Skyline Conference play.
The Gators added three more goals late in the period, with Derlis Zayas and Paul Reynoso finding the back of the net, respectively. The goals were assisted by Reynoso and Seybolt. The final goal of the night was an own goal.
Sage's Caelan Kohut earned the win between the pipes. He turned away two shots.
The loss drops Purchase to 0-8-1 overall and 0-3-1 in conference.
In defeat, Purchase was led by keeper
Thomas Ogrodnik (JR/Washingtonville, NY), who finished with 14 saves, and defenders
Aaron Jones (FR/Highland Falls, NY) and
Anthony Iurillo (JR/Flushing, NY). Jones finished with a shot on goal and also played well defensively and in the midfield. Iurillo, a tri-captain, added two shots.
Purchase will now look to regroup Saturday on the road at Old Westbury.
