(Sept. 4, 2016) – The Purchase women's soccer team opened up its 2016 campaign with a 4-0 loss to Keuka College in the Erinn K. Brozman Cup hosted by Hartwick College on Sunday. Purchase scheduled to play Hartwick on day two of the tournament but the game was canceled due to weather.
Keuka (1-2) came out fast against the Panthers (0-1), tallying five shots in the opening minutes. Despite the final score, transfer goalkeeper
Rachel Mizrahi (JR/Goldens Bridge, NY) totaled an impressive eight saves in her Panther debut game.
Keuka's Emily McGuigan scored the first two goals, the first of her collegiate career. The Green and Gold broke through in the 14th minutes as Allison Ariola set up McGuigan for the goal. A minute and three seconds later, McGuigan struck again. Nicole Browe found McGuigan cutting down the middle and the freshman scored for her second goal of the day. The Wolves would carry a 2-0 lead into the break.
Brooke Guernsey scored for the second consecutive game and Carly Sanford also added a goal.
In the second half, Browe helped set up Keuka's third goal. She dribbled the ball in and found Brooke Guernsey who scored her second goal in as many days for the Wolves. Carly Sanford added a late tally to widen the margin to 4-0. Goalkeeper Talia Cruz made a pair of saves in just under 80 minutes of action to earn her first collegiate shutout.
Purchase is back in action Wednesday against the College if Staten Island. The non-conference road match is set for 7 p.m.
