Purchase, NY
(Oct. 12, 2017) – Senior standouts
Caroline Haldeman-Emmerling and
Catherine Pasquale were recognized in a pre-match ceremony today on Senior Day.
The two Panther starts were presented with flowers and other tokens of appreciation, including certificates from the Sports Information office. The duo will be honored again during the program's annual awards banquet in April.
Haldeman-Emmerling (SR/Miami Shores, FL) was introduced first in the brief ceremony, which was MCed by
Sports Information Director Bobby Ciafardini. Purchase
head coach Susan Kaminsky penned some words about each senior, which Ciafardini delivered to the crowd on hand, including visiting Baruch. The Bearcats would go on to take the match, 5-4.
"Caroline joined the team as a second semester sophomore. Her strokes are as beautiful as her smile," Kaminsky wrote. "Her singles matches are slug fests and her doubles matches display her equally dazzling net game. Caroline never misses a practice and loves playing tennis. We're certain her impressive art work will receive the recognition it deserves."
Fellow co-captain Pasquale (SR/Valhalla, NY) followed, enjoying an equally impressive round of applause from those in attendance and her teammates. The women's tennis team also created a collage for the two tennis stars, showcasing some of their memorable moments over the years. The art work was displayed along the fence outside Court 1. It included photos of Caroline and Cat.
"Cat joined the team as a transfer student her sophomore year. Cat rebounded from serious medical issues last year to become an important contributor in both singles and doubles this year. Her singles match against Pratt was the highlight of the season, so far. Cat's the first one to get to practice and I can always count on her. We'll miss her dedication and organizational skills."
Unfortunately for the host Panthers, Baruch took both the first and second doubles, racing out to a 2-1 advantage heading into singles play, where the Bearcats won three of the six singles matches. Grace Graham and Hayley Bester earned victories at first and second singles for Baruch, respectively.
Purchase's
Raquelle DeCicco (FR/Kingston, NY) continued her dominance this fall. She won at third singles, 8-6. She us undefeated in singles this season, going 10-0 after today's victory.
Nadia Shadi (JR/New York, NY) also posted an 8-2 win at No. 4 singles.
