Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Bobby Ciafardini, SID

Four Celebrated on Senior Night

Purchase, Maritime Draw

Purchase, NY (Oct. 17, 2017) – Four Purchase College men's soccer players were recognized on Senior Night  before the Panthers went out and played to a scoreless, double overtime draw with conference rival SUNY Maritime.

Kayode Tyler (SR/Nyack, NY), Joel Viveros (SR/Valhalla, NY), Liam Nethercott (SR/Amenia, NY) and Anthony Iurillo (SR/Whitestone, NY) were introduced by Sports Information Director Bobby Ciafardini during a brief pregame ceremony that included friends and family.

"Our first senior came to us as a transfer this season," Ciafardini said, introducing Tyler, who was joined on the field by his mother and father. "The tri-captain has been an integral part of the midfield all season. He has contributed five goals and one assist this fall … Head coach James Bruno says of Ky: 'Sometimes you just get lucky and a young man like Ky walks into your office and into your starting lineup!'"

Ciafardini then welcomed Viveros, who was joined on the field by his dad.

"Our next senior is a three-year member of the team. He has two career goals with a stunning game winner against Farmingdale this year. He has seen time as a defender and in the midfield. He is also a member of the 2014 Skyline Conference championship team. Coach Bruno calls Joel, 'resilient, hardworking and everyone's friend in the program.'"

Nethercott, a four-year member of the team, was joined by his father and mother on the field – a sweet moment for him after being plagued by injury early in his career only to rebound to become a consistent contributor to the program in the past two seasons. "He has one career goal and one assist," Ciafardini said. "He is a member of the 2014 Skyline Conference championship team. Coach Bruno says, 'Liam's athleticism and energy have been used all over the field. He's played everything except goalkeeper. His work rate is infectious and he's always looking to improve and learn.'"

The final introduction was left for tri-captain Iurillo, who was joined by his father and mother at midfield.

"And last, but certainly not least. Our final senior is a four-year member of the program and a two-year captain," Ciafardini said. "In 2014 he was second team all-conference selection and a member of the Skyline Championship team. He is the leader in minutes played over the past four years, amassing over 5,590 minutes in 65 career games as a central defender. He has three career goals and two assists. His younger brother, Joe, is s a freshman and has been his partner at center back for most of this season … Coach Bruno adds: 'Since Anthony's arrival on campus, he has been a leader and one of the best defenders in the conference and the most consistent player in the program. He is an ironman when it comes to suiting up and playing for this team. He will be missed greatly.'"

The Senior Night festivities paved the way for a terrific game.

The first half featured few chances between the two, with defense playing the starring role on both sides. Maritime edged Purchase 5-3 in first-half shots.

The second half brought more of the same as the game found no winner by the end of regulation.

Iurillo would finish the night with three of Purchase's eight shots – that shared the game lead with Maritime's Harry Colucci and Anthony Palazzolo.

After losing two straight in OT, Purchase bounced back to gain a draw with Maritime in double OT. Jordan Meade (FR/Olivebridge, NY) made several key stops down the stretch to preserve the 110 minute shutout. He finished with nine saves.
