Teaneck, NJ
(Oct. 20, 2017) – Move over
Rob Cal,
Oliver Dubreus can score game-winning goals, too.
Dubreus (JR/Cornwall, NY) sunk host Yeshiva University 2-1 in extra time Friday afternoon. YU had originally given the game-winning goal to Cal (JR/Port Jervis, NY), who leads the team in GWs (3), but following further review, it was Dubreus who scored it.
The game-winning goal capped a memorable comeback for visiting Purchase, which trailed 1-0 in the first half. YU's Joseph Grobman scored in the 35th minute off a free kick in the midfield.
But not to be outdone, Purchase responded quickly, scoring the equalizer off the foot of tri-captain
Kayode Tyler (SR/Nyack, NY). Tyler scored in the 37th minute off an assist from
Ramsey Heitmann (JR/Garrison, NY). The goal bounced over the keeper's head.
The game remained tied for the next 73 minutes until Dubreus scored in the 110th minute. The Panthers have now played four straight extra-time games, including back-to-back in double OT.
Purchase outshot YU 33-26 and held an 11-8 advantage in corner kicks.
Panther keeper
Jordan Meade (FR/Olivebridge, NY) finished with 13 saves in the victory. Macs keeper Max Goldstein also recorded 13 saves in goal.
Purchase has one regular-season game remaining (Mount Saint Mary, Oct. 25) before the playoffs. The 4-2-2 Panthers are bound for the postseason.
