Purchase, NY
(Oct. 18, 2017) – The Purchase College women's soccer team used suffocating defense to blank the Privateers of SUNY Maritime Tuesday night, taking the Skyline Conference contest, 2-0.
Rookie sensation
Cerissa DiValentino (FR/New Paltz, NY) scored once in each half on assists from
Emma Porter (SR/Homer, NY) and
Brett Robison (SO/Franklin Square, NY), respectively.
It took DiValentino less than a minute to score after subbing in for teammate
Brianna Pirozzi (SO/Staten Island, NY) at 15:31. Porter sent a short pass to the feet of the Panther newcomer. DiValentino took a few touches before beating Maritime keeper Cammie Havens with a shot to the lower left corner.
Purchase continued to control possession for the remainder of the half.
The second half followed a similar pattern. Purchase carried play throughout and went up to 2-0 in the 74th minute when DiValentino hit Robison's rebounded shot off the post.
Purchase's
Amber Yarter (SO/Albany, NY) was credited the win on a one save effort while Havens picked up the loss for Maritime with 10 saves.
The Panthers return to their home turf on Thursday for a non-conference game against the City College of New York.
