(Oct. 19, 2017) – The fourth-seeded Purchase women's tennis team ended the 2017 season on Wednesday night with a 5-1 road loss to first-seeded Yeshiva University in the semifinals of the Skyline Conference Tournament.
In defeat, the Panthers finish the year with a 6-7 record while the Maccabees improve to 9-1 and will move to face Mount Saint Mary College in the Skyline Championship match on Oct. 22.
Yeshiva won two out of three doubles matches, and won all three completed singles flights, to earn a spot in the championship match.
The Panther duo of
Abigail Cuddy (JR/Mount Kisco, NY) and
Catherine Pasquale (SR/Valhalla, NY) finish the season undefeated in the league at the No. 2 doubles spot after defeating Rachel Slater and Andrea Weiss, 8-2. Cuddy and Pasquale notched a spotless 6-0 Skyline record.
For host Maccabees, senior Shani Hava and junior Rebecca Packer teamed up to earn a convincing win in the first doubles position, 8-0. Hava came back to dominate at No. 1 singles, once again not dropping a single game.
Sophomore Bailey Frohlich and classmate Michal Ladenheim cruised to a win at the third doubles position, 8-2. Frohlich won every game at No. 5 singles, while Ladenheim clinched the semifinal victory for the Maccabees by winning the sixth singles position, 6-1, 6-2.
Yeshiva will look to win its first Skyline championship since 1999, and be the first women's program to earn an NCAA bid in school history.
