Farmingdale, NY (Feb. 14, 2016) – The Purchase College women's basketball team fell to the Rams of Farmingdale State, 74-43, on Tuesday evening.

Tied 2-2, FSC (13-10, 11-6 SKY) went on an 18-0 run to take a 20-2 advantage with 3:41 remaining in the first. The Rams held a 23-9 lead entering the second quarter and opened with a Meghan Cleary 3-pointer and a layup by Chelsea May to go on top, 28-9.
 
After a Kayla Ortiz (JR/Brooklyn, NY) 3 cut the Purchase (2-20, 1-16) deficit to 33-20, the Panthers followed with four straight points to close within nine, 33-24, with 1:19 left on the clock. Tyra Harrison scored the final basket of the half for the Rams as FSC took a 35-24 advantage into the break.
 
Over the first 5:59 of the third, Farmingdale outscored Purchase 23-5 to extend the lead to 58-29. After the Panthers hit 1-of-2 at the line, the Rams responded with six unanswered points to go ahead, 64-30, with 53 seconds left in the quarter.

In a low scoring fourth quarter, FSC outscored Purchase 10-8 en route to the 74-43 victory.

Junior guard Liz Durchhalter poured in a season-high 14 points (4-of-6 from behind the arc), while Harrison scored 14 points, had three steals and three assists. Junior guard Kaelyn added 14 points (6-for-10), six rebounds, four assists and a game-high six steals and May secured a season-high 12 rebounds for FSC.

For Purchase, Ortiz finished with a team-high 13 points to go along with four assists and four steals. April Uhl (SR/Jackson Heights, NY) and Lisa Kentris (SO/Latham, NY) chipped in with nine points apiece.

The Farmingdale State Athletic Department also hosted a fundraiser Tuesday evening with all proceeds going to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. 

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund was officially founded on Dec. 3, 2007, from the vision of the organization's namesake Kay Yow, former North Carolina State University head women's basketball coach.

Kay Yow was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, and passed away on Jan. 24, 2009 after facing her third bout with the disease. Before her death, she joined forces with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation for Cancer Research to form the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause.
