Staten Island, NY
(April 11, 2017) -- The College of Staten Island continued their win streak Tuesday with a pair of wins over Purchase College to extend the streak to 11 straight.
The Dolphins posted a 7-1 victory in game one followed by a 5-0 shutout in game two. CSI is now 15-3. The Panthers fell to 3-9 overall in the non-conference twin bill.
CSI's Jacqueline Cautela started in the circle for the Dolphins. Cautela came into the doubleheader with a nation leading 0.19 ERA and was able to lower it to 0.15 against the Panthers after not allowing an earned run. Cautela helped her own cause as well by going 1-for-4 at the plate and collecting two RBIs and scoring a run in the process. The win improved Cautela's record to 7-0 on the year.
The hosts broke things open in game one in the fourth inning, where they scored four runs.
The Panthers would find their way onto the board in the sixth inning of play, an inning which saw the Dolphins commit two errors.
Kelly Hayes (SO/Staten Island, NY) singled to short center field, giving the Panthers their fourth hit of the game. Hayes would come around to score. That run is also the first run the Dolphins have given up since March 30.
In game two, Nicolette Trapani got the start for CSI. She lowered her ERA to 1.11 while increasing her record to 6-2 overall. The Dolphins were much better in the field in the second game, committing just one error, which did not lead to a run.
CSI was held scoreless for three straight innings but was able to open up its lead in the bottom of the fifth after the Panthers threatened to score. CSI tallied three runs in the fifth inning to jump out to a 5-0 lead.
