(April 21, 2017) – Purchase men's lacrosse, fresh off their first win of the season, hosted the United States Merchant Marine Academy Friday night in the program's final home game of the spring.
Despite a strong start by the Panthers, the Mariners posted a 19-5 final at Purchase.
The game was tied 2-2 seven and half minutes in, with the Panthers holding an early edge in shots. The hosts rattled off a flurry in the first five minutes.
Nick Treon scored the game's first goal for the visitors, but
Daniel Desaulniers (FR/Watertown, CT) and
James Felix (SO/Scarsdale, NY) answered with back-to-back for Purchase for a 2-1 lead.
However, USMMA – seeded third in conference, ranking among the power programs in the Skyline – got its footing and took a 9-2 lead into the second period. The Mariners would score six more in the second and four more in the third. Nick Roros and Treon scored three apiece. Cameron Hallier (2); Jackson Misner (2); Pat Coll (2); Chris Whitenack (2); Ryan Sweeney (1); Liam Connors (1); Nick Maurer (1); Dan McGovern (1); Tucker Dodson (1) accounted for the goals.
The Panthers were paced by Felix, who finished with two goals. Desaulniers,
Simon Lai (SR/Garrison, NY) and
Dylan Gethicker (JR/Lime Lake, NY) recorded the other goals.
Purchase returns to action Monday at Montclair State in its final game of 2017.
