Softball Wraps Weekend in Split

Patchogue, NY (April 29, 2017) – Purchase softball dropped two games today at St. Joseph's College-LI, but split the weekend action after sweeping two from Brooklyn College Saturday.

Friday, the Panthers won 8-0 in five innings in game one before closing out the Bulldogs on the road 13-3 in game two.

In the opener, Purchase starting pitcher Nicole Fortuna (SR/New Rochelle, NY) hurled five near-flawless innings, yielding two Bulldog hits and not walking a batter. After scoring a couple runs to start the game, the Panthers opened it up in the third inning by scoring six runs. April Uhl and Kelly Hayes (SO/Staten Island, NY) each had two RBI. Lisa Kentris (SO/Latham, NY) added two hits.

In the finale, the Bulldogs would once again find themselves down early, trailing Purchase 4-0 through one and half.

Brooklyn would get on the board in the bottom of the second on an RBI single. Trailing 7-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning, BC's Nicole Rose hit a two-run in the park homer. Purchase would get out of the inning with three straight strikeouts and then scored three runs a piece in the final two innings. Uhl, Victoria Capone-Froio (JR/Yonkers, NY), Mary Adams (SR/Milton, PA), Briana Leon (SR/Glen Cove, NY) and Kentris all recorded multi-hit games with Kentris going 4 for 5 with three runs scored and one RBI. Hayes, Leon and Uhl recorded two RBI apiece. Capone-Froio added three hits and a team-best three RBI in headlining the offense along with Kentris.

Saturday, SJC-LI earned a 7-0 win in game one and a 12-0 victory in game two.

The Panthers are now 6-10 overall and remain in sixth place in the conference.

SJC took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The Golden Eagles would tack on three more runs in the bottom of the sixth.

SJC came out hot again, this time going for six runs in a first inning of game two. They never looked back.
