(Sept. 12, 2017) – The Purchase College women's tennis team picked up its first win of the season with an 8-1 non-conference victory over Brooklyn College Tuesday afternoon.
The host Panthers swept doubles competition and won five-of-six singles matches to improve to 1-1 overall. In defeat, the Bulldogs drop to 2-2 on the season.
The No. 3 doubles duo of
Nadia Shadi (JR/New York, NY) and
Raquelle DeCicco (FR/Kingston, NY) got things rolling for Purchase after picking up the first win of the afternoon, an 8-1 victory over Brooklyn's Natalie Abramov and Chisara Cupid. Next in line for a win were
Catherine Pasquale (SR/Valhalla, NY) and
Abigail Cuddy (JR/Mount Kisco, NY). The No. 2 doubles team defeated Shannel Johnson and Georgeen Belrose, 8-3.
After almost two hours of battling, No. 1 doubles dyad
Caroline Haldeman-Emmerling (SR/Miami Shore, FL) and
Sofia Rapisarda (SO/Brooklyn, NY) won their match 9-8 with a 7-3 victory in the tiebreaker.
Purchase continued its dominance in singles play. Haldeman-Emmerling was awarded a win by walkover at the No. 1 spot, while Cuddy notched a 7-5, 6-3 win at third singles.
DeCicco and Shadi each earned shutout victories at the No. 4 and 6 spots, respectively, and Panther newcomer
Amelia Rothbell (FR/Plainedge, NY) rounded out the scoring with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at fifth singles.
Johnson defeated Pasquale at the No. 2 position for the sole Brooklyn win on the afternoon.
Purchase returns to action on Saturday with a home match against Pratt Institute that gets underway at 10 a.m.
