Poultney, VT
(Sept. 23, 2017) – Men's soccer started a new win streak Saturday.
The Panthers, who had their four-game streak snapped at Albertus Magnus on Thursday night, soundly defeated Green Mountain College, 4-0.
Purchase (5-4) dominated possession for the majority of the opening half, registering several quality scoring opportunities.
The visitors broke through in the 37thminute as
Favian Reyes (SO/Port Chester, NY) drove a pass from
Jackson Stenborg (FR/Brooklyn, NY) low and right from the left side that eluded several defenders and handcuffed GMC's keeper Griffin Shelor to provide a 1-0 first half lead heading into halftime.
The Panthers struck again not long after halftime when
Eslam Ellisy (FR/Nyack, NY) took a pass from
Rob Cal (JR/Port Jervis, NY), whose shot was partially saved and trickled into the net, extending the lead to 2-0.
The Eagles began to press after that goal and generated some opportunities in the offensive third, possessing the ball much better in the second half, but
Jade Aubertin (SO/Brooklyn, NY) was there to make a pair of saves each time.
Kayode Tyler (SR/Nyack, NY) made a nice individual effort taking the ball on the right side and maneuvered around a defender to get just outside the six-yard box before lifting a laser into the top left for a 3-0 Purchase lead.
Stenborg closed out the scoring on an assist from
Liam Nethercott (SR/Amenia, NY) as the Eagles got caught up field during a corner kick opportunity and gave up a goal in transition in the 67th minute of action.
Aubertin earned the shutout in net for the Panthers after making three saves.
