Danbury, CT
(Sept. 27, 2017) – For the third time this early season, the Purchase College men's soccer team lost by one goal.
The Panthers, who entered tonight winners of five of six, dropped a 1-0 final to host Western Connecticut State University – a program that knows all too well about heartbreaking losses.
After suffering four single goal losses earlier this season, WestConn found itself on the winning end on Wednesday night at The Westside Athletic Complex.
Colonial senior midfielder Nick Kyriakidis tallied the game-winning goal when he dribbled right to elude a defender and blasted a shot from the left wing into the top-right corner of the net in the 65th minute of play.
WestConn goalkeeper Luca DiCarlo improved to 4-2 overall while notching three saves for the Colonials, while rookie netminder
Jordan Meade (FR/Olivebridge, NY) finished with 10 saves for Purchase.
After a scoreless opening half, the paced picked up in the second. WestConn had its first quality effort in the 43rd minute when forward Chauncey Allers fired a sharp-angled shot that was turned aside by Meade.
However, Kyriakidis was able to provide the spark when he netted his second goal of the year.
The Panthers had a prospect in the waning minutes but their header on a corner kick sailed above the crossbar.
Thomas Browne (FR/Carle Place, NY) and
Kayode Tyler (SR/Nyack, NY) paced the Purchase offense with two shots apiece.
