Purchase, NY (Sept. 5, 2017) – Purchase College women's tennis battled Yeshiva University Tuesday in the program's season opener.

The Maccabees edged the hosts 5-3, capturing two of the three doubles matches for a fast start before finishing off the victory in singles play. YU won three of the five singles matches. No. 4 singles went unfinished due to weather.

Purchase's Catherine Pasquale (SR/Valhalla, NY) earned a strong 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles, while newcomer Amelia Rothbell (FR/Plainedge, NY) was impressive at No. 6 singles, winning 6-0, 6-4. Fellow newcomer Raquelle DeCicco (FR/Kingston, NY) also performed well in singles.

YU's Shani Hava won at first singles, while also teaming with Rebecca Packer for an 8-1 win at first doubles. Pasquale and Abigail Cuddy (JR/Mount Kisco, NY) won at second doubles for Purchase.

The Panthers will look to rebound next week at home, when they welcome Brooklyn College on Sept. 12. Thursday's matchup with Baruch College has been postponed.
