West Harrison, NY
(Oct. 15, 2018) – The win streak continues.
The Purchase College women's tennis team rallied to a 5-4 victory over St. Joseph's College (L.I.) at tonight's Senior Night match at Life Time Athletic.
With the win, the Panthers (10-1, 6-0 SKY) break the program records (since joining the Skyline) for most conference wins in a season and for the first undefeated league record. Purchase also clinches the No. 1 seed, while SJC (7-3, 5-1 SKY) claims the No. 2 spot heading into Skyline Conference Championships.
Unfortunate weather moved the match location from Purchase's home courts to the West Harrison facility. Nonetheless, the Panthers honored three of the team's finest—
Megan Fox (SR/Manhasset, NY),
Nadia Shadi (SR/New York, NY) and
Abigail Cuddy (SR/Mount Kisco, NY) with a pre-match Senior Night ceremony.
Words from head coach Susan Kaminsky...
Megan: "We are delighted that she joined the team this year. She's been a great addition to our singles line up and can battle it out for hours to secure a win."
Nadia: "Nadia has played all four years and I hope she's proudest of the fact that she's now a bona fide doubles player! Thanks for your leadership in Captaining the team."
Abigail: "Abby joined the team her sophomore year as a walk on. Her even temperament and fierce volley made the difference in countless matches. She's been an amazing captain and will be greatly missed."
Cuddy finishes her Panther career with an impressive 25-7 singles record and 28-7 in doubles play. Shadi caps her four-year collegiate career at 15-13 in singles and 17-7 in doubles. Fox, a newcomer to the program this year finishes with a 5-1 singles record.
The visiting Golden Eagles jumped out to an 3-0 early lead following doubles play. Victoria Panicola and Taylor Hanscom battled to an 8-6 win over Purchase freshmen
Bianca Harris (Montgomery, NY) and
Grace Bradshaw (Ossining, NY) at the top flight. The No. 2 doubles pairing of Amanda Post and Nora Burnett also netted an 8-6 victory, and the No. 3 duo of Mackenzie Martocci and Alana Caporale secured the doubles sweep with an 9-8 (10-8) triumph.
The Panthers answered back in singles play with four points to take a 4-3 lead. Bradshaw was first to finish. The rookie ace downed Post 6-1, 6-3 at the top seed. Fox was next in line with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.
