Men's Soccer Drops Skyline Game at Maritime

Bronx, NY (Oct. 16, 2018) – The Purchase men's soccer team fell behind in the opening 45 minutes and unable to snap back, the Panthers dropped a 3-0 decision to Maritime College Tuesday night in a Skyline Conference matchup hosted by the Privateers at Reinhart Field.

Maritime has now won seven straight games, and are 9-0 at home with a 14-3 overall record. They also hold onto their first place lead in the league standings with 21 points and a 7-1 record.

The Privateers opened up the scoring at 21:08 on a goal from Parker Gallt. The game-winner came from a cross from teammate Christopher Tavernese.

Seven minutes later, a long throw in from Justin Forrest created chaos inside the box. A loose ball resulted in a Maritime shot and a Purchase hand ball which led to a penalty shot that gave the home team 2-0 advantage.

Maritime tacked on its third and final goal in the 35th minute. Junior goalkeeper Michael Rodriguez sent a massive kick down the sideline and Gallt sprinted past the defense to take the ball to the opposite end line. Gallt sent in a perfect pass to the feet of Shevaugn Sheriffe who one-timed it into the back of the net.

The Panthers offense tried to put the pressure on in the second half, but Maritime's defense wouldn't give them any breathing room. The Privateers only gave up one shot in the second half and just three for the entire game. It was an impressive performance on both sides of the ball from the Privateers as they have now outscored opponents at Reinhart Field 43-2.

Panther netminder Jordan Meade (SO/Olivebridge, NY) tallied six saves in the loss.

Purchase is back at home with week with a Skyline game against Mount Saint Vincent on Thursday starting at 7 p.m.
