Guzzone Fuels Purchase Shutout Over St. Joe's

Panther SID Bobby C Announces His Final Game

Purchase, NY (Oct. 18, 2018) – Rookie standout Anthony Guzzone recorded two goals to lead Purchase College past visiting St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn), 4-0, Thursday evening.

With the win, Purchase moves to 5-6-2 overall and 3-4-1 in the Skyline. SJC drops to 4-13 on the season and 1-7 in the league.

Prior to the start of the game, Purchase Athletics bid a "farewell and good luck" to Sports Information Director Bobby Ciafardini. The long-time Panther staffer has been named the new Sports Director at WFUV 90.7 FM Radio. Tonight was the final Purchase contest Ciafardini would announce.

Guzzone (FR/Shoreham, NY) connected on a pass from sophomore forward Eslam Ellisy (Nyack, NY) to open the scoring at 32:12.

Guzzone found the back of the net again in the 39th minute. The unassisted goal was his third of the season.

The Panthers led 2-0 at the half and tacked on another two in the second. Sophomore defender Vincent La Fata (East Meadow, NY) was first to strike. The second-year Panther knocked in a rebounded free-kick taken by teammate Thomas Browne (SO/Carle Place, NY).

Purchase scored its final goal of the game in the 86th minute. Senior midfielder Oliver Dubreus (Cornwall, NY) sent a perfect cross to Browne, who sent a header over the hands of SJC keeper Alejandro Oliveros.

Purchase finished with a 20-18 advantage in shots (12-5 on net). The Panthers took five corners, while the Bears earned one.

PC netminder Jordan Meade (Olivebridge, NY) recorded his fifth win and second shutout of 2018 after shutting down all five of the Bears' shots.

Oliveros tallied eight shots in the SJC loss.

Purchase returns to its home field on Saturday as the Panthers get set to play host to Skyline foe Mount Saint Mary College. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m.
