(Nov. 20, 2018) – Five different Panthers posted double-digit scoring efforts as the Purchase College men's basketball team grabbed a 91-57 win over USMMA in the Skyline Conference opener Tuesday evening.
With the win, the Panthers move to 2-2 overall (1-0 Skyline), while the host Mariners drop to 0-1 (0-1 Skyline).
Junior guard
Elijah Lott (East Greenbush, NY) led the sweep over the Mariners with a game-high 19 points and 10 rebounds—his second double-double of the season. Senior center
Mike Felix (Goshen, NY) connected on 100 percent of his shots, totaling 16 points (7-for-7 FG; 2-for-2 FT). Felix also finished with eight rebounds and a game-best five blocks.
Senior guard
Rob Grullon (Wallkill, NY) totaled 14 points came off the bench for PC, while senior captain
Michael Soffer (Agoura Hills, CA) and junior guard
Maxx Miller (White Plains, NY) completed the double-digit scoring effort with a combined 22 points (11 apiece).
Purchase shot at an impressive 64.4-percent clip (38-for-59) and also out-rebounded the Mariners 49-19 on the night. Merchant Marine was held to just a 32.8-percent shooting percentage (20-for-61).
For USMMA, sophomore James Walsh scored a team-high 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting with two three-pointers. Classmate Seth Barnes added 12 points, while junior Mike Morsberger contributed 11 off the bench.
The Panthers are back in action after the Thanksgiving break to take on soon-to-be Skyline foe Manhattanville College.
