Panthers Secure Win at CCNY

New York, NY (Feb. 9, 2018) - Junior Amber Jones a layup and a free-throw to break a 59-all tie with 14 seconds remaining in the contest to secure a 62-59 victory for the Purchase College women's basketball against the City College of New York Thursday evening.

With the win, the Panthers advance to 9-12 overall, while CCNY drops to 14-9 on the season.

Trailing by seven points at halftime, CCNY started quickly in the opening two minutes of the third quarter with four unanswered points to bring the score to 36-31.

Purchase answered back with a layup from Nyasia Harris (JR/Soth Fallsburg, NY) and a 3-pointer from Jones (JR/Bronx, NY) to stretch the Panther lead to 48-35. Jones buried another three in the final seconds of the period to put Purchase in front, 50-40, heading into the final 10 minutes of action.

The Beavers slowly chipped away at the Panthers' lead and with 20 seconds left in play, CCNY's Debra Chan sunk a 3-pointer to tie the game at 59 apiece. In the remaining seconds, Jones secured the 62-59 win for Purchase with a layup and free-throw.

Jones finished with a game-high 21 points and six assists. She also grabbed six boards and three steals.

Rookie ace Alfa DeJesus (SO/Bronx, NY) totaled 12 points and six rebounds, while senior guard Kayla Ortiz (Brooklyn, NY) chipped in with 11 points and five rebounds. Harris led the defensive effort for Purchase with a game-best 18 rebounds.
  
Purchase will travel to rival Farmingdale State this Saturday afternoon. The Skyline contest is slated for 12 p.m.
