Women’s Lax Crushes Becker

Purchase, NY (March 16, 2018) – The Purchase College women's lacrosse team rolled to 2-0 to start the season Friday, overwhelming Becker College, 21-1.

The Panthers scored early and often, ringing up 10 first-half strikes, including two right off the bat from leading scorer and returning All-Skyline performer Zoe Hines (SR/Maplewood, NJ). The Reigning Skyline Player of the Week would add five more goals to her credit on the day, once again leading the charge for the hosts.

Teammate Kelly Turtell (SR/Farmingdale, NY) scored the game's third goal, which Hines assisted.

The Panthers were rolling from there, opening up a huge advantage just five minutes into the contest against their non-conference opponents from Massachusetts.

Purchase dominated and is now ready for Skyline Conference competition. The Panthers open league play next week at SUNY Maritime (3/21).

The hosts outshot Becker 42-1, firing 35 shots on goal. Purchase also produced 61 ground balls in a terrific all-around showing.

Breakout rookie Gabriella Castles (FR/Bethpage, NY) and fellow newcomer Casey O'Riordan (FR/Huntington Station, NY) both registered four goals apiece, while Madi Smith (SR/Lagrangeville, NY) and Turtell contributed three each in a hat trick for the duo. Maddy Mecca (FR/Oceanside, NY) and Alex Lally (SR/Sunnyvale, NY), who was just named the senior class speaker today, finished with a goal each.

Becker's Cassandra Nelson scored her first goal of the season. The goal came late in the second half.

The visitors fell to 0-1 in their season opener.

Turtell accounted for six assists and a game-high nine points, which she shared with Hines. Hines also handed out four assists. Turtell scooped up 12 of the team's 61 ground balls.

Purchase's Astrella Dacosta (SO/Croton-on-Hudson, NY) was also strong in the victory. She dominated the draw with five controls, while adding 11 ground balls on the day.
