7th Heaven: Red-Hot Hines, Panthers Start 3-0

Rookies Mecca, Castles Score Four Apiece; Turtell Finishes with Six Points; Sharman Earns First Win

Purchase, NY (March 24, 2018) – Forget about hat tricks.

Zoe Hines (SR/Maplewood, NJ) has a knack for scoring seven goals in a game. For the fourth time in her Panther career, the tri-captain tied the program mark for goals in a single matchup. She posted seven in a 19-4 victory over Southern Vermont College.

In the process, Purchase rolled to 3-0 to start the spring.

Hines is back to her All-Skyline form, and Panther head coach Francesca Levine and company are still undefeated since the skipper returned to the sidelines from maternity leave in 2018.

The Panthers stayed hot and looked dominant Saturday in the second game of a Purchase lacrosse doubleheader. The Panthers got four more goals out of rookie sensations Maddy Mecca (FR/Oceanside, NY) and Gabriella Castles (FR/Bethpage, NY). Kelly Turtell (SR/Farmingdale, NY) finished with a hat trick, and Casey O'Riordan (FR/Huntington Station, NY) found the back of the net once in continuing her breakout rookie campaign, too.

Mecca and O'Riordan have seven and five goals on the year, respectively, while Castles leads all newcomers with 12, trailing team leader Hines and her 17 by five goals.

Hines and Mecca scored five of the first six goals in the game, and Purchase never looked back. The Panthers outshot SVC 35-9.

They led 11-1 at halftime.

Hines finished with a game-high nine points, adding two assists to her credit. Turtell followed with six points, including three assists. Turtell also recorded a game-high six ground balls and seven draw controls.

Gabrielle Sharman (FR/Alpharetta, GA) earned the win in goal, Sharman's first career win.

Alex Safford paced SVC with three of the team's four goals in the loss.
