(March 24, 2018) – The Purchase College men's volleyball team faced some stiff competition Saturday on the road.
The Panthers squared off against one of the best CUNY schools in Hunter College, while also taking on No. 2-ranked Kean University. Kean would defeat both the Hawks and Purchase to sweep the tri-match. The Panthers fell 3-0 to Hunter and Kean, respectively. The Hawks are now 15-9 on the season, splitting the non-conference tri-match.
The Hawks started the day with the win over the Panthers: 25-8, 25-11 and 25-15.
Hunter's Michael Jazgarski led the team with nine kills. Alec Helford and Daniel Valdez split time at the setter position, posting 13 and 12 assists, respectively. Joe Muir and Hogan registered seven digs each in the match for a team-high.
Luke Kubisch (JR/Delmar, NY) paced the Panthers with three kills.
Christopher Williams (SR/Valley Stream, NY) added seven digs and five assists.
Kean posted a 25-11, 25-15, 25-16 final over Purchase (5-12).
Jacob Milnazik finished with a match-high 11 kills and a .667 hitting percentage, as the Cougars (24-2) extended their winning streak to 18 matches. Zach Gerken handed out 22 assists and collected eight digs in the straight sets sweep. Kean posted above a .350 attacking percentage in all three sets and totaled a .417 percentage as a team.
Williams and
Andreo Ontiniano (SO/Mamaroneck, NY) paced Purchase with five digs apiece in the Kean matchup. Kubisch registered a team-high two kills.
