Purchase, NY
(March 6, 2018) – SUNY Poly rallied from a three-goal deficit late to tie the game and eventually upend Purchase 11-10 in overtime Tuesday.
The visitors trailed 10-7 with a little over five minutes left in regulation in their season opener on the road at Purchase.
The Panthers, which trailed 2-0 in the first quarter, scored four straight for a 4-2 advantage early, but the game would see-saw throughout.
It was tied 4-4 in the second quarter and 6-6 midway through the third on a
Ben Erkan (FR/Belport, NY) score – the third of his game-leading four on the afternoon.
But Poly would take the lead 7-6 on a Daniel Rivie strike.
That's when Purchase went to work and scored the game-tying goal, courtesy of team scoring leader
Dylan Gethicker (JR/Lime Lake, NY), followed by some incredible play from
James Felix (JR/Scarsdale, NY). Felix made it 8-7 and later 10-7. In between, newcomer
Shane Sanders (FR/Merrick, NY) added a goal.
However, Poly wasn't done answering, putting together a rally of its own. The Wildcats scored three times over the final five minutes, including Charlie Rosachi's third of the game at 3:18 that would help force OT.
In the four-minute extra session, Eddie Rosachi played hero, netting the game winner.
Erkan paced Purchase with four goals. Gethicker and Felix each recorded two apiece, while Sanders and
Isaac Aguero (JR/Bronx, NY) scored single goals. Felix finished the game with two goals and three assists. Erkan finished with four goals and two assists for a game-high six points.
Charlie Rosaschi led SUNY Poly with three goals and two assists. Rivie, Noah Garrett and Devin Ross netted two goals each.
Poly keeper Jared Laird finished with eight saves in the win. Purchase's
Matt Sayegh (SO/Hopewell Junction, NY) was equally impressive, turning away nine shots.
Purchase's
Bryan Ventura (SR/Bedford Hills, NY),
Brady Fahy (JR/Rochester, NY),
Christian Maldonado (FR/Albany, NY),
Justus Lacey (SR/Syracuse, NY) and
Justice Smith (SR/Mahanttan, NY) also played well, despite the narrow defeat in OT.
The Panthers are now 1-2 to start the season. Poly improves to 1-0.
