Purchase, NY
(April 10, 2018) – The dynamic duo!
Dylan Gethicker (JR/Lime Lake, NY) and
James Felix (JR/Scarsdale, NY) combined for 10 goals in Purchase's 13-11 victory over non-conference opponent, Rosemont College, Tuesday night at home. The pair also finished with six points apiece to pace the hosts.
Standout rookie
Ben Erkan (FR/Belport, NY) followed with five points. He handed out three assists and recorded two goals of his own. Erkan also added a game-best 10 ground balls.
In the loss, Brandon Crausse scored three goals for Rosemont. Malik Slye and Dylan Hummel added two goals apiece for the Ravens.
Rosemont fell to 1-10. The Panthers are now 4-6.
Fresh off his league honor roll for player of the week, Felix (No. 23) kept scoring goals. He now has 13 goals over the last three games.
The Panthers led 3-0, but Rosemont roared back with five straight goals for a 5-3 advantage.
But Purchase closed the first quarter on a Gethicker strike from
Christian Maldonado (FR/Albany, NY) with :21 seconds remaining.
That brought the Panthers back within one.
Gethicker then picked up where he left off, scoring the first goal of the second to knot the game at 5-all.
The game would see-saw throughout the second with the hosts holding a one-goal lead, 7-6, until Gethicker proved clutch again with back-to-back scores over a seven-minute stretch for a 9-6 margin heading into halftime.
Although Rosemont would keep pace and open with consecutive scores in the third to once again trail by only one, Purchase got two more of its own, including one from
Shane Sanders (FR/Merrick, NY) – the other goal scorer for the Panthers on the night. That goal made it 11-9 in favor of Purchase.
Both teams would go on to score two more goals in the last stanza, with Felix scoring his 27th and 28th of the season to seal the victory. Felix scored the final two goals as the Panthers edged the Ravens.
Matt Sayegh (SO/Hopewell Junction, NY) totaled 11 saves to earn his fourth win between the pipes.
