(Apr. 18, 2018) –The Purchase College women's lacrosse team was edged out by visiting SUNY College at Old Westbury, 16-13, Wednesday evening.
Old Westbury (3-9, 2-2 Skyline Conference) started fast in the opening half. The visiting Panthers built a 4-0 lead in the first five minutes of play on three goals from Natasha Treuman and one from Rachel Phillips.

Kelly Turtell (Farmingdale, NY) broke open the scoring for the home team at 20:14, but OW fired back with two more goals to bring its lead to 6-1.
With just over 15 minutes left in the half, Panther rookie
Gabriella Castles (FR/Bethpage, NY) notched her 24th goal of the season on a free position shot. She netted another with one second left on the clock. At the half, Purchase trailed Old Westbury, 6-3.
Purchase was outshot 15-8 overall in the first half. OW finished the first half with a 10-9 edge in ground balls and 5-3 advantage in draw controls.
Both teams exchanged goals to start the second half. Castles recorded her fourth goal of the game at 28:33, but it was answered with two Old West goals from Treuman. Purchase's
Astrella Dacosta (SO/Croton-on-Hudson, NY) was next in line to score, but the visitor's hit back 30 seconds later with a goal scored by Phillips.
Purchase played its best stretch over the next five minutes of action.
Maddy Mecca (FR/Oceanside, NY), Castles and Turtell combined for three consecutive PC points to bring the Panthers within one goal, 9-8, of their opponent.
Old West hit double digits with a Treuman goal at 16:58. Purchase came within one again on an Dacosta strike at 16:15.
Old Westbury went on a 6-4 run to finish the second half and secure the 16-13 victory.
The visitors were led by Treuman, who recorded a game-high eight points on seven goals and one assist. Phillips finished with four goals and an assist, while teammate Halle Johnson added a hat trick. In net, Ashley Gugliuzzo made five saves to pick up the victory.
For Purchase, Castles recorded five goals on the evening, while Turtell led the Panthers with six points on four goals and two assists. Dacosta netted her third hat trick of the season, while Mecca added a goal and an assist. Between the pipes, Purchase goalkeeper

Overall, Old Westbury held a 35-21 edge in shots and a 22-18 advantage in shots on goal.
Purchase returns to action on Saturday when the Panthers play host to Mount Saint Mary College. Opening draw with the Knights is scheduled for noon.
