Bronx, NY
(Sept. 13, 2018) – Rookie
Rakiem Daley (FR/Staten Island, NY) made sure
head coach Brandon Levine and the Panthers wouldn't post back-to-back draws.
The newcomer played hero in overtime Wednesday night at Lehman College, nailing the game-winning goal off an assist from
Aidan Leavens (SR/Whitestone, NY) in the extra session to send Purchase to its first victory of 2018, 2-1. The win is also Levine's first as a head coach, and it comes after the Panthers played the City College of New York to a 2-2 draw last time out.
But Wednesday night would be different in another non-conference showdown with a top tier CUNY opponent.
The outcome: Memorable to say the least for Levine and the Panthers.
Oliver Dubreus (SR/Cornwall, NY) gave Purchase a 1-0 lead on a loose ball in the box in the early going.
Thomas Browne (SO/Carle Place, NY) assisted on the score.
Lehman answered back much later. Sahl Alzubidi tied the contest on a goal from Eduardo Victorio.
That set the stage for Daley and the dramatics of OT. The sudden death game winner sunk Lehman in its home opener.
Lehman fell to 2-3 in defeat. Purchase is now 1-2-1.
