Purchase, NY (Sept. 21, 2018) – The Purchase College women's tennis team picked up its first win of 2018 against Western Connecticut State University Friday afternoon. The host Panthers defeated the non-conference Colonials by a score of 6-3.
Purchase (1-1) captured two out of three doubles matches to jump out to a 2-1 lead. The Panthers' No. 2 doubles flight tandem of
Raquelle DeCicco (SO/Kingston, NY) and
Alivia Cagliano (FR/Mastic Beach, NY) posted an 8-2 victory, while
Nadia Shadi (SR/New York, NY) and
Isabel Biagiotti (FR/Highland Mills, NY) teamed up for an 8-1 win at the third spot.
At first doubles,
Abigail Cuddy (SR/Mount Kisco, NY) and
Bianca Harris (FR/Montgomery, NY) battled Carole Allers and Emma Chapman but came up short, 8-6.
In singles play, Shadi was first to finish, recording a 6-3, 6-0 victory at the No. 6 spot. Cagliano gave Purchase a 4-1 advantage with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at third singles, and Panther newcomer
Megan Fox (SR/Manhasset, NY) secured the PC win with a 6-2, 6-2 win at the fifth flight.
Cuddy earned the sixth point for Purchase at No. 4 singles, defeating Gabriella Orsini by a score of 6-4, 6-0.
Western (1-4) earned wins at the top two singles positions. Allers netted a 6-0, 6-1 win at second singles and Chapman battled to a 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-7) victory at the No. 1 spot.
Purchase is back in action tomorrow morning with a home match against Pratt Institute starting at 10 a.m.
