Purchase, NY (Sept. 22, 2018) – The Purchase College women's tennis team picked up its second straight win in less than 24 hours on Saturday morning, dispatching Pratt Institute with, 9-0.
The Panthers are now 2-1 on the season. In defeat, the visiting Cannoneers drop to 5-2 overall.
First and second doubles opened scoring action for Purchase. Senior
Abigail Cuddy (Mount Kisco, NY) and freshman
Bianca Harris (Montgomery, NY) picked up an 8-3 win at the No. 1 flight and sophomore
Raquelle DeCicco (Kingston, NY) and freshman
Alivia Cagliano (Mastic Beach, NY) shutout their Pratt opponents, 8-0, at the second spot.
The Panthers took a 3-0 lead after the No. 3 doubles pairing of freshmen
Isabel Biagiotti (Highland Mills, NY) and
Angela Fiedler (Middletown, NY) battled to an 8-6 triumph over Isabel Campbell and Eesha Jain. The match, which played out just under two hours, was the longest running in recent program history.
In singles action, the No. 4 position was the first to finish. Cuddy defeated Morgan Ferweda by a score of 6-0, 6-1. Next in line was DeCicco, who's 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles decided the match-victory.
Cagliano and Fiedler also recorded their second wins of the day with 6-4, 6-1 and 6-3, 6-2 victories at the No. 3 and 6 spots, respectively. The wins were collegiate firsts for Fiedler who made her Panther debut against the Canonneers.
At the top flight, Harris came back from a first-set loss to win the match, 4-6, 6-3, 10-7. Senior
Megan Fox (Manhasset, NY) recorded the final point for PC and secured the 9-0 sweep over Pratt. Fox defeated Campbell, 6-2, 6-4, at fifth singles.
Up next, the Panthers head to St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) to open Skyline Conference play on Wednesday (Sept. 26).
