Purchase, NY
(Sept. 24, 2018) – Purchase kept coming Monday, battling to the end against visiting Green Mountain, but an early two-goal lead helped the visitors escape with a 2-1 win in the Panthers' home opener.
Green Mountain's Avery Barber scored the game's first goal in the opening period. The visitors held a 1-0 lead at the break and then Sarah Gray provided the eventual game winner in the 62nd minute off an assist from Maya Golowasch.
Despite being down two scores, Purchase responded on a penalty kick score off the boot of
Rebecca Colgan (FR/Valley Stream, NY) – her first career goal. Colgan was a bright spot for the hosts with 11 shots, including eight on goal.
The Panthers now trailed 2-1 with little under seven minutes to go.
Although Purchase would get a few good attempts at the equalizer, the Panthers came up just short. The non-conference loss dropped Purchase to 0-5. Green Mountain is now 3-2.
Purchase held the margin in corner kicks and shots. However, Green Mountain capitalized better on its scoring chances, especially on the two opportunities that ended dictating the outcome of the contest.
